My First World Championships Competition!!!!

In July of 2009, I made a bet with my friend to lose weight.

When I started, I was over 242lb. I decided to attend an “Introduction to Olympic Weightlifting” course to jump start my side of the bet.

One of the reasons I chose this was many women in Olympic Weightlifting have been my size or larger. Shortly after I took the course, I got the opportunity to train with my first “coach” - Chris Lemky. He worked with me from August 2009 to March 2010. In that time, I lost over 65lbs! I then moved up to training with his coach Mac Reed to learn this intense Olympic sport being in the best shape of my life. The last ten months have been hard, painful (dislocated finger) and utterly amazing.

In November 2010, I placed 2nd in Alberta Provincials with a total combined lift of 131kg, missing gold by only 6kg. This qualifies me to compete at the World Masters Olympic Weightlifting competition in Cyprus this October!! For my first after 40, I would be honored to compete for my country, myself and for some very special people.
For the last ten years, I have been a volunteer with Kid’s Cancer Care Foundation of Alberta – we are always encouraging the campers to follow their heart and their dreams. They have all seen my transformation and I would love to show them that when you dream big, you can achieve anything.

By the way, I won the bet!
