My First Lesson!
What I've always wanted to do is play guitar and write songs. Unfortunately, my life just took a different path and I never took the time to find out more.On a beautiful day last year at the end of March, I crashed face first off my mountain bike onto a paved bike path to avoid hitting a child who ran out in front of me. I ended up with a really bad concussion and a fracture bone in my face. After the accident I couldn't really do much but rest. In addition to this I have rare auto-immune disease in my eyes that has been in remission for now, but has damaged the sight in my left eye. My eye surgeon told me that I would have to make adjustments in my life to limit my stresses and manage my disability.
While resting, I started to think of ways of how I could restructure my life and do things differently. I also thought of some of the things that I'd like to do again. One of them was taking guitar lessons and write music. This idea has always been a little seed planted in the back of my mind.
During a follow up appointment, my doctor suggested that I take on something new to get my brain thinking in a different way and to create new pathways for it. I mentioned that I was interested in music lessons and she thought that would be perfect! From there, I went home and booked my first lessons.
When I think about my new goal, I feel energized and stimulated… like I’ve re-invented myself. I will continue to make it my passion because I really believe that I was called to do this in so many ways. Maybe some day I’ll have my first hit and even play a gig or two.
This accident was like hitting a brick wall and it awoke something in me. It triggered the courage in me to just go for it no matter what! Our lives are always giving us clues and we just need to listen to them. Sometimes we get hit by a brick and then we hit a brick wall in order to make changes in our lives. I could no longer ignore a passion that I had been longing to do. Don’t wait to hit your brick wall. If you have a seed of an idea, step out in faith and courage and do it!
